For 150 years, America’s gardeners have looked to Scotts Miracle-Gro to help them express themselves on their own piece of the Earth. We value this trust and continue working to ensure we are responsible corporate citizens. Following are just some of the ways we are carrying out our vision of a more sustainable future.

Our research and development teams have been moving aggressively to develop more natural and organic formulations, using ingredients such as essential oils. We are proving it’s possible to provide gardeners with products that are good for the environment while still meeting high efficacy standards. Today, 80% of our research and development funds for gardens are devoted to natural and organic products.

Nutrient pollution, fed by excess phosphorus, is a major cause of harmful algal blooms threatening all 50 U.S. states and 15,000 freshwater bodies worldwide. In 2013 we achieved our goal of removing phosphorus from all our lawn maintenance products. We recognize this step alone cannot solve this crisis. That’s why we have sponsored the George Barley Prize, a $10 million global competition to find a solution, once and for all, to harmful algal blooms.

In 2016 we launched a national partner network, comprised of nonprofit organizations working to protect fragile watersheds and conserve precious water resources in places like Southern California, the Florida Everglades, and Chesapeake Bay. Grants to this network from The Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation fund coastal watershed restoration, water education programs in local schools, and storm water diversion projects throughout the United States.

In 2018 we will celebrate the construction of the 1,000th community garden funded through the Gro1000 program. To date this incredible program has achieved the following:

  • 10,797,824: Square feet of space restored and revitalized
  • 64,650+: Youth impacted through hands-on learning and experience with nature
  • 266,000+: Pounds of produce donated annually
